Oswald Oberhuber's early work is attributed to the Informel. Oberhuber learned sculpture at the Bundesgewerbeschule Innsbruck from 1945 -1949. Subsequently, Oberhuber was a student of Fritz Wotruba at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna and Willi Baumeister at the Academy in Stuttgart. In 1972 Oberhuber represented Austria at the Venice Biennale. In 1964/65, he was artistic advisor to the Galerie nächst St. Stephan, which he took over from Otto Mauer in 1973 and directed until 1978. Oberhuber participated in documenta 6 in 1977 and documenta 7 in 1982. In 1973 he became a professor at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna. Oberhuber exhibited with object furniture, designs, drawings (1989) and painting (1992) twice in the gallery Vorsetzen. Oberhuber was married to the gallery owner Rosemarie Schwarzwälder. Awards: 1978 Prize of the City of Vienna for Fine Arts; 1990 Tyrolean State Prize for Art; 1990 (?) Austrian State Prize; 2004 Österreichisches Ehrenkreuz für Wissenschaft und Kunst First Class; 2016 Österreichisches Ehrenzeichen für Wissenschaft und Kunst.
